Chris Harrison talks ‘peas’ on BBC News

Jun 01 2023

Peas that don’t taste like peas could help the planet!

Our Managing Director Chris Harrison featured on yesterday’s BBC News coverage of a pea breeding program to reduce the flavour in UK grown crops.

The project is part of a government scheme which aims to boost food production whilst reducing carbon emissions.

In addition to providing BBC Science Correspondent and reporter Pallab Ghosh with an insight into our pea farm, processing plant and pea-based meat alternative products, Chris discussed the challenge the plant-based food market faces with flavours in some meat replacement products.

In the full interview, Chris explained that the Company had always focussed on improved flavour in its products that can replace soya and that using improved varieties in combination with clever cooking methods such as Novo Farina’s would accelerate the uptake of pea-based protein products that can be British produced.
